Kindred Spirits

When Riley and her brother Ben attend a grief counseling retreat after the death of their sister, someone decides that the dead need company.

Jesse produced this 18 minute horror film as part of a 400-level filmmaking workshop class that he took in the Fall of 2013. He worked with his good friend and film partner Daniel White over the course of three and a half months to coordinate a dozen cast and crew members and to bring this thrilling film to life.

Darren is a young man seeking love in the city. When a petty thief steals his bike, he meets Alyx, who steals his heart.

Jesse wrote, directed, shot, and edited this short film for a class that challenged students to make films that counter popular negative ideologies. Jesse’s goal was to breathe a life outside romance into the trope of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl.

What is it about vinyl records that have attracted people throughout the ages? Record store proprietor Rich Martin and his friend and employee Mike Pratt discuss the appeal of vinyl, the story of their shop, and their opinions on where physical media stands today.

In his first film with Daniel White, Jesse reached out to Rich Martin, a friend of his from his time on the music scene in New London, CT. This film was the result of hours of work with Rich and Mike to find out what really makes vinyl, and music generally, so special to the people in a community.

In Jesse’s first filmmaking class, he was assigned the project of creating a narrative through montage. This film has virtually no dialogue, relying on visual storytelling to get its message across.

A Life Changing Event

When a young couple discover that they are expecting a child before they are ready to care for one, they struggle with making a decision about what to do.

Jesse worked with fellow student Daniel Coppersmith to create this long-take film for their first filmmaking class. Part of the assignment required that no audio from set be used. As such, all of the audio in this short film was recorded and placed after the fact.
